@Vatneblod Ray was an amazing songwriter who did write about all those things you mentioned and was somewhat ahead of his time, but to say the beatles only wrote about love is truly preposterous! they wrote songs about plenty of other things, listen to the lyrics of Revolution, helter skelter or even Here comes the sun, there are lots more but i feel you got my drift…….

@GGMMaassoonn lol @ how you named people like Ray Davies, John Lennon, And bob dylan, and than you jump to “Lady Gaga’ Quite a leap but whatever floats your boat man….

@UglyKidClaire I’ll disagree with that. Their late sixties singles (from Kink Kronikles) are their best work, and push many Beatles songs aside, but this song is particularly unimpressive for the Kinks. Unoriginal melody and chord progression. The only flair are the dumb voices and lyrics: “the environmental pressure has got me down”? You have got to be kidding me!

The entire Muswell Hillbillies album from which this song was lifted is an awesome collection of songs. Every one of them is a gem. Unfortunately the album udeservedly failed to win over the critics. It should have been a top seller.

Ray Davies and The Kinks have been the most important musical influence in my life. Ray is always inspiring. A true performer, musical genius, and poet.
I love that he is known as the Shakespeare of Rock.

This is wonderful! Never heard this live – what a great performance of a sweet and funny ironic song.

Ray’s a good ol’e boy and a great songwriter…right up there with Lennon, Dylan, and Lady Gaga. No, seriously, he’s the best.

Awesome song. When Ray starts singing “Holiday” it seems he has no teeth in. (On purpose)
