I don’t know how much fuck there is in the world… but if you could gather it all up, that’s how fucking good Danny was!!

Joe and Danny are tops man. I’ve been impressed with both for years. But lately I’ve been watching a lot of Gay Moore here on YouTube and now wonder if he may have been the best of them all. So much power and emotion in his playing. Good cover of Red House by Gary on YouTube and check out Texas Strut. Smoking guitar!!!

Thanks for the reply mate, I’m a huge Joe fan and have seen him live twice now. Didn’t know the connection between these too so thanks for that info!

I’ll give you one – Joe Bonamassa. Current and started as a super gifted child prodigy like Danny Gatton did. In fact, Danny was one of Joe’s mentors. He taught him during the last 4 years of his life. IMHO Joe is probably the greatest thing to happen to music in a generation.

A guy from Canada named Jimmy James plays a bit like him.

The WHOLE neck is worn!!! The WHOLE damed thing!!! There just isn’t a single note that guitar hasn’t squeezed out!! Love it!

A monster demon on that telecaster or his triple humbucker les custom… The kind of guitar that just eats you alive… Let’s do more to increase awareness of Danny’s music. He was a guitar god of epic proportions! The guy had it all - the lightning speed precision, whalin blues, whalin jazz, whalin country and bucketloads of feel and attitude. How he never became mega famous is a mystery to me. Mountain of a player!!!

That’s what you call, “Born to Play Guitar!”

Thanks so much! Have most of that stuff, but will check out your other suggestions, cheers!

imho you should definitely check out Roy Buchanan – his double-cd anthology Sweet dreams would be a nice start…incredible blues feeling, if you like Danny and SRV, you can’t go wrong with Roy… A fantastic guitar album is “Psychedelic guitar circus”, feat. Steve Kimock, Henry Kaiser, Freddy Roulette – very trippy, groovy, uplifting tunes… I’d also recommend Rory Gallagher’s Live Irish Tour, the wonderful John Lee Hooker Mr. Lucky with great guitar playing…

I would love if you could send me some suggestions as to other greats to listen too! Where do you rate SRV? Cheers and have a great day! Dave

I bought the telemaster DVD and was astonished at his techniques ( tips and tricks is awesome as well ). So original for me. We just don’t have that calibre of guitarist here in the UK ( Scotland ). He was the greatest. Hopefully more people will post up more gems for us to study and drool over.

ok, folks, I own approx. 5000 original cds, I have collected all the guitar greats who ever put their fingers on six or more strings – but all I can say: Danny was in a league of his own. I know, we shouldn’t compare artists, because so many of them have enriched our lives – but words fail to describe the genius of Danny. Thanks for posting this gorgeous gem!!!!!

Unbelievable artistry, technique, and talent. The world won’t see anyone as gifted anytime soon. There was only one Danny Gatton. I like to imagine him, SRV, and Hendrix jamming together up in heaven.

    for music’s sake alone.

I played the Birchmere in 2002 with Ike Turner. There is a huge picture of Danny on the wall there and it’s larger than life. At that moment I feel like I had achieved a goal of sorts, playing in the presence (sort of) to a guy with whom I’d have loved to shared a musical communion with.
