More than 43 million people are living below the poverty line, but who are these people? For some reason, in this country, there’s always been an assumption that the poor, or the underclass, are the non-white people that live in this country, and the fact that there has always been a white underclass has become taboo. The Rednecks of Blair Mountain, WV ( 1921) knew that economic justice must be fought for. Unfortunately, most folks don’t know our history and too often don’t seem to care about poverty until it hits them. Luckily, there are lots of movements trying to fight for justice. I see Joe isn’t a redneck. We have some differences here. I have no idea what the tea party people is for ’cause they are only for their group and not badly treated American middle and poor people. Yes, there is RACIST in the halfs of our population Black and White racists. Isn’t this being used to screw all us poor no matter WHAT RACE we are??? Why people are poor in America is an important question but I think the answers are already on the table. The reason why I think the question of why victims fight for their oppressors is distinct in that it doesn’t yet have a definitave answer, thus I believe it’s more interesting and more worthy of urgent attention. It’s also tied up with your question in that in order to change the status quo, including the question of entrenched poverty, we first need first to understand it.

this is speculative. this topic is that white people are the silent poor people no one could image being poor and (so what!) that is a generalization. what strikes me as really dumb is that white people brought african’s here and they have been struggling ever since. it’s amazing what centuries can do for a society seeing that we now have a black president, therefore i think they should focus on why any person is poor not why people who live in a fantasy are ignorant .

Dumb topic? Mate, if you’re an American or if you’re effected by what happens in America (so, basicly, if you’re breathing) then this is one of the most critical topics there is. The question is, how is it that the forces of destruction and greed are able to get their victims to fight for them? Why and how are so many Americans so badly misled? If we can figure that out maybe we can start to turn it around. So like I said, it doesn’t get much more important than this.
