Joi Lansing Tribute

Here is a classic song performed by the glamorous Joi Lansing. Joi Lansing was the screen name of Joy Rae Brown (Salt Lake City, Utah, 1929 – Santa Monica, California, 1972) (she is sometimes also credited as Joyce Lansing, Joy Lansing, Joy Loveland). A statuesque blonde model and actress, Lansing was often cast in roles similar to those played by contemporaries Jayne Mansfield and Mamie Van Doren. Her earliest work was as a model (she was extremely successful throughout the 1940’s), and she began her film career in 1948 (she appeared in “Easter Parade”, with Judy Garland). In 1952, she played an uncredited role in the MGM blockbuster “Singin’ in the Rain”. In the opening scene of “Touch of Evil” (1958) by Orson Welles she appeared as Zita, a dancer who dies at the end of the famous first tracking shot. On television she appeared on “The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok” (1951), “I Love Lucy” (1951), and “The Beverly Hillbillies” in a recurring role (1962-1968). In 1955 Joi landed a recurring role as Shirley Swanson in the TV series “The Bob Cummings Show”. It was this show that proved to all that Joi could, indeed, act and act well. Because of this series, she began to get a few more substantial parts in films such as “The Brave One”, “Hot Cars” and “So You Think the Grass Is Greener”, all in 1956. Later movie roles included parts in “Marriage on the Rocks” (1965) and “Hillbillies in a Haunted House” (1967). In 1970 Joi shot her last two films, “Bigfoot” and “Superman

The 23 String Band hails from the Cumberland Valley portion of Kentucky, performing with humorous repartee and instrumental prowess. Weaving in and out of Old-Time, Bluegrass, and Acoustic Roots genres or that of the like. Using Banjo, Guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and Upright Bass as the vehicle, the band’s energetic style features original compositions as well as forgotten and obscure numbers from times past. Chris Shouse The guitarist and lead vocals is Chris Shouse from Owsley Co. Kentucky. Chris has an intense and harmonious vocal style that is sure to please the most sensitive of ears. Curtis Wilson Playing Banjo is Curtis Wilson from Laurel Co. Kentucky. Curt plays in various styles on the banjo two fingers, three finger, and claw hammer. He says “the way I play is basically one style, the one that’s based on limitations. Dave Howard Playing mandolin with great instrumental prowess and “right on” harmonization is Dave Howard. Being from Daviess Co. Kentucky a long way from the Cumberland Valley doesn’t matter to the rest of the boys who are “flattered to have such a talent play with a bunch of hillbillies. Scott Moore Coming from the city of Louisville, Scott brings a wide variety of fiddling to the band from playing honky tonks to symphonies throughout Kentucky. Owen Reynolds Finally too prove the band’s name wrong Owen Reynolds adds four more strings to the mix playing upright bass. Owen being from Laurel Co. Kentucky is such a great musician in all genres. I met her once when she was doing her night club act in B’ham. She was so beautiful but much thinner in person than when she was on screen. Later that day, I saw some film that the news dept shot of her being flirty and having fun in the news room. She was buxom Joi on film.
She was truely a beautiful woman that should have been a MUCH bigger star.

To Joi Lansing fans. The episode of “The Adventures of Superman” that she guest-starred in, “Superman’s Wife,” is available for download. I downloaded it on Amazon for $1.99 and, if I’m not mistaken, it’s mine for “keeps.” With baby blue eyes to die for, Joi is photographed in color and is absolutely gorgeous to behold.

Really a presence that’s hard to take your eyes off! And a very nice voice. Talented and sexy. Today’s actresses got it all wrong. Appeal is not how easily and how much you show. They could learn a lot from Joi, who knew what she had and how to make it work. Some things should be left to the imagination.

According to folkore that buxom blonde lived in our house in Laurel Canyon. Our neighbor, who was a kid at the time, said she used to take him on sets with her and babysit. He said she loved the house and after she died, he’d smell her perfume. Considering she died in Santa Monica, I didn’t think ghosts could travel that way. I do know that a couple of people have seen a ghost in our house. Not me. And I’m glad. I’d feel too intimidated and frumpy.

Sadly her “38’s” – arguably her greatest asset – eventually killed her. She died of breast cancer in 1972 aged 43.

Hmmnn.. Looking at her she was not all that special, she just had a very good makeup artist. Her figure was certainly nothing to write home about.

Joi first appeared in the early 1950’s you can check but I don’t think silicon was used at that time to enhance.
