The first time I heard this in ’03, I laughed so hard I gagged and nearly puked. Growing up and living in Nashville, it’s pretty much dead on.

I laughed hardest at that part. I replayed it and figured out what he really said, but at first I thought he said, “Worm-like veracity”. Worm-like-truth-words: A non-contact killing blow at which even ninjas have no skill. I want that ability.

Relax there, I’m saying that Hawaii is now a more modern country than it once was; therefore communication is in many more forms. (Computer, tv, newspapers, etc..)

Look I think we pretty much killed this conversation, I don’t even know what it’s about. Let’s just call it a day.

you write “Well yes now because it’s a more global nation now, it’s also a state of a very modern country.” what “now?” WHAT ARE YOU SAYING? i didn’t mention anything about hawaii now, in this time, so what are you agreeing with?, then you write “Well, again, not anymore. Awhile back, communication was mainly done by word of mouth.”? a while back it was only done by word of mouth. you were speeking of hawaiians in pre contact times then reply “Well, again, not anymore” what?explain

  16. Sshelly34213

Well yes now because it’s a more global nation now, it’s also a state of a very modern country.

It’s been awhile since we’ve had this discussion, I’ve got a lot of stuff to do outside of youtube, so sorry about that.

Well, again, not anymore. Awhile back, communication was mainly done by word of mouth.

estranged? WTF and you said “I’m not saying reading isn’t important, I think it is. I’m saying that’s how it simply developed in that culture. ” that is how what developed in their culture? lit? if it’s lit then you should know it developed better in hawaiian culure, better then any nation, for a time. also, how can you place importance on somehing no one has ever seen or heard of yet?

you say “communication was minimal. The cultural that developed placed importance on other things as opposed to literacy.

i’m talking about hawaii being the most litterate nation on the planet and you are now talking about the times of pre contact with westerners, your all over the place and say you “don’t know where we are going wih this” Stay on topic. Now: Communication in a place were everyone knows 17 generations of history by heart doesn’t sound like a place of “minimal communicaion” & how did they travel thousands of miles without an empire to begin with? ie: rapa nui and contact with S.America

  23. Sshelly34213

I think I already gave my point of view on this, I’m actually talking about social behavior here, rather than political.

The only nations Hawaii interacted with were other estranged, secluded, island nations similar to theirs in culture and social behaviors.

I think its terrible how westerners treated native peoples, I don’t really see where we’re going with this however.

  24. Sshelly34213

My point is that in the years living on a secluded island paradise, communication was minimal. The cultural that developed placed importance on other things as opposed to literacy.

I’m not saying reading isn’t important, I think it is. I’m saying that’s how it simply developed in that culture.

  25. Sshelly34213

Well it depends, how important is reading when there’s no one to interact with (therefore no international economy to build and run, no foreign relations to engage in.)

Literacy is only necessary when you have a great deal of people to communicate with. (Maybe not literacy, but at least such an important form of communication.)

    …that doesn’t make any sense…
