Tim Minchin performs a cover of the Notting Hillbillies’ “Feel Like Going Home”, originally written by American Country Music Singer and Grammy Award Winner Charlie Rich. This recording was a somewhat spontaneous media call Tim did for The Sun. Not a fancy-schmancy recording, but a little captured cover of a lovely song. The original can be heard on Charlie Rich’s 1974 album, “The Silver Fox”, and later Rich releases. Source: tinyurl.com

I bet Tim is a smart a kind of atheist and by that I mean that he doesn’t look down on the people that are religious. I’m quite sure he gives credit to people who have faith in god or whatever and doesn’t hate them or think that religious people are stupid. He just pokes fun religions from time to time and I myself as a christian find that fine and amusing. Christians shouldn’t take themselfs so seriously and other atheists should respect our kind of people more. That would be kinda nice.
Peace.

I would love to write this out but really don’t have the time at the moment. But it’s a basic chord progression, and doesn’t really stray from the tonic, dominant and subdominant, much.

Such a beautiful song, I’ve seen Tim do some sentimental stuff before, but this one really gets me.

“…some American dude”. Well Tim gave Charlie Rich his due today on BBC radio when he selected the track as one of the 8 he would take to a desert island. It is a beaut, pity it was eclipsed by the A-side of Charlie’s smash hit single in 1973.

Trust the material. Minchin had this as one of his Desert Island Discs choices last Sunday and gave full credit to the writer, Charlie Rich. Sometimes our route to a song is long and complicated. How many of us found a tune just through a tiny sample on something else? Great performance of a great song by the way!

He’s a comedian so his dialogue needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. But he gives Charlie’s song full respect….. beautiful version

When I’m scared, or I’m unsure, I listen to this song and I don’t feel so alone. There’s no one who makes me feel the way Tim does when he sings. It’s not even about religion, or suffering, it’s about sharing all the things we feel like we go through alone.

Well if by fag you mean gay that has nothing to do with appreciating good music. If by fag you mean show any sign of emotion and consider it weak then unfortunately you are ;).

trust me, just because a song is about a trying time in life doesnt mean its a suicidal anthem, its just somebody crying out to god/whatever that theyre just knackered and want to go back to a place in space and time where theyre not completely exhausted, somewhere that they can refer to as ‘home’ lol
although i reckon the original version MIGHT have just been about touring and being homesick and shizz, musicians do that sorta stuff lol.
