This sketch is “The Frightened Family,” featuring John Candy, Buck Henry, Dave Thomas and Lorranie Newman. This was a Lorne Michaels produced program called “The New Show” that lasted one season in 1984. Many SNL and SCTV regulars appeared in sketches. I’d like to see the sketch again in which both Quaid brothers played hillbillies who phoned “The Naughty Lady,” after securing a credit card to make the call.
Snippet I found…..Max Baer talks of Sharon Tate….for whats it worth….( Couple of Dates)..true or not ?….who knows.

You’re welcome. I remember the Walnuts. Hadn’t thought about it in a long time. “John Girl.”

HA HA HA….OMG! Thank you so much for sharing this I’ve been wanting to see The Frightened Family for a while. The Carol Burnett show’s family skit, The Walnuts, was another one of my favorites.

I remember this from when I was in junior high school. The ‘Den of Revulsion’ sketch is another classic.

I remember this so well. I was just a little tike when this aired but I loved it. My Dad and I used to go around copying this skit back in the early-mid 80’s, screaming in fear about the most inane things. lol Thanks for posting this.

Great to see The New Show again! I vividly remember what I believe was the very first sketch on the first episode, with Steve Martin as guest host. He discovers he’s been drugged, and is talking in that truncated way that is the cliche of such situations: “must…. find…. help!” Except he continues along the same vein for much longer than expected… I think other people show up in the same situation… they’re all talking like that. Would love to see it again!

No Eugene Levy- you mean Dave Thomas. Thanks for posting the bit. It was about 3 minutes worth of funny (nice to see Candy about to bust up at Dave Thomas). :^)

True! Max Jr was not very happy about the way his dad was portrayed in Ron Howard’s movie. BTW do you know what Max Baer Sr has in common with Ron Howard?
