thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com November 14, 1962 The headmistress of an exclusive private school for boys is astonished to find the teenaged Jethro enrolled in her fifth grade. Jethro (though he addresses Jed as his uncle) is the son of Jed’s cousin, Pearl Bodine. He drove the Clampett family to their new home in California and stayed on with them to further his education. The whole family boasts of Jethro’s “sixth grade education” but nevertheless feels he is a bit of an idiot. He manages to enroll late in the semester at a local secretarial school due to his financial backing and earns his diploma by the end of the day because he didn’t understand what was going on in class and was too disruptive. (This was an ironic in-joke—in real life Max Baer Jr, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Santa Clara University (also Minored in Philosophy)). Many stories in the series involve Jethro’s endless career search, which …

Grannie has her back up and is determined to return home. Partly because the police made the family get rid of all the farm animals Jed purchased and corralled in a tennis court. Also she just doesn’t like the attitude of the people of Beverly Hills declaring that, “this place if full of the laziest, greasiest, unfriendliest mess of people I ever did lay my eyes on.” Ellie may has an agreement with Jed to wear dresses for three whole days. If she doesn’t have just as much fun in a dress as she does climbing trees and “wraslin” she gets to go back to wearing pants and shirts. Jethrine makes her first appearance in the series and Jed invites Pearl and Jethrine to come for a visit. Finally, the whole family goes out to trick or treat. Culinary delights mentioned in this episode include hog jowls, pone, possum shanks, skin’ possum and salted down possum. This video brought to you by hwy61media. MacGibbon (October 5, 1905 — February 8, 1987) was an American actress. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Walter Peter McGibbon, a physician and Gertrude L. Crary. It is not clear why she added an “a” to her surname, but she was credited a few times as McGibbon. She was “finished” at Knox School, Cooperstown, New York, where she prepared for Vassar. Without staying to receive a diploma, she left to fulfill her desire for the footlights and studied with Franklin H. Sargent at his American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. MacGibbon joined the stock company of Edward Clarke Lilley at Akron, Ohio. She then went to San Francisco and played leading roles for Henry Duffy. In Louisville, Kentucky, she acted with Wilton Lackaye, Edmund Breese, William Faversham, Tom Wise and Nance O’Neil. There were regular productions, including Ned McCobb’s Daughter, The Front Page, The Big Fight, and a “transcontinental tour” starring MacGibbon in The Big Fight, which began in Boston, took in New Haven and Hartford, and ended at Caine’s storehouse. Jack Dempsey was also in the cast. During that time, MacGibbon stopped off in Boston long enough to study the harp with Alfred Holy, harpist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She later said that when she gave up the instrument, Mr. Holy …

thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com April 10, 1963 After playing golf with Jethro, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Leo Durocher wants to sign him as a pitcher. Wally Cassell (born Oswaldo Castellano, March 3, 1915) is an American character actor. Castellano was born in Agrigento, Sicily, and moved with his family to the United States at the age of two. He began his film career in 1942, frequently appearing in small, uncredited roles. Mickey Rooney is credited with suggesting the change of name to Wally Cassell. His films include Sands of Iwo Jima, Flying Leathernecks, Until They Sail, The Story of GI Joe, and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo. He later appeared in a number of television series such as Rawhide, The Untouchables and The Beverly Hillbillies. He retired from acting in 1964 and later became a successful businessman. Leo Ernest Durocher (in french Léo Ernest Durocher) (July 27, 1905 — October 7, 1991), nicknamed Leo the Lip, was an American infielder and manager in Major League Baseball. Upon his retirement, he ranked fifth all-time among managers with 2009 career victories, second only to John McGraw in National League history. Durocher still ranks tenth in career wins by a manager. A controversial and outspoken character, Durocher’s career was dogged by clashes with authority, umpires (his 95 career ejections as a manager trailed only McGraw when he retired, and still rank fourth on the all-time list), and the press. Durocher was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame …
