The Ballad of Jed Clampett

This is the Ballad of Jed Clampett, the well known theme of the world famous television series and movie “The Beverly Hillbillies”. Finally had the time to go out in the backyard and shoot this video! This here is the full song, with singing and all (sorry!) and even the funny remarks about the hillbilly family in between! It’s a fun tune to pick, fun to sing and a certain hit in a barbecue or pig pickin’!!! Everybody knows and love this tune. Here, as a novice, I made a few minor mistakes, but overall, I’m satisfied with it, so I wrapped it up and decided to upload. I always love to upload videos here and share it with my friends. There’s a certain excitement about it, it’s a nice feeling to do so. If you just got started on the banjo, or any other instrument for that matter, I would strongly suggest you to start an account here, if you don’t already have one, and upload the little songs you will be learning. Besides of listening to your own mistakes, and later on watch it as a proof of your own improvement (watch my first Cripple Creek song, recorded two years ago, and compare it to this one!), it will also give you motivation to keep on going. To top it off, there’s a lot of expert banjo players here and they always give you good advice. Don’t be alarmed by critics, as long as they are not offensive, but rather constructive, they will help you to improve your techniques. And most of all, remember this: if you ain’t gettin’ paid for it, or making a living on your banjo

Could you email me the Tab for The Ballad of Jed Clampett ? I have I think just a line or two of that song in one of my books but not the whole tab. Thanks.

Thank you! You will get there, believe me. 5 years ago, I knew nothing. I know a little today. But I started just like you, with Boil Them Cabbage Down and Cripple Creek. Stick with it, and you will see your progress growing and before you know it, you will be picking this tune and many others. Just be patient and don’t neglect your practice time. That’s it, just keep pickin’!

My banjo heads can be found on Facebook, and also for sale on eBay, for £59. Yes, I ship worldwide, and from Scotland!

This song reminds me of Texas A&M. That’s not a compliment to either this song nor that cow college.

Thank you very much. Look up my other video, tribute to D. Ray White and you will see how better it can get! Or go to eBay and look up “Confederate banjo head”, then scroll down the item’s page to the bottom and look at the gallery – there’s some kickass designs I made for people there. Every time I upload a new video from now on, I will have a different banjo head installed. As Pinhead once said, I have such sights to show you! Lol, thanks for stopping by, buddy.

Beautiful! Love that Southern Flag! Gonna paint one on my car. This music makes a body feel much better than the crap pumped out of hollywood today.

I love that tune, was playing it here yesterday (not me, can’t play it yet, on the radio), drinking some whiskey while listening to some good Bluegrass tunes. I like Hank Snow too, my favorite tune of his is “I’ve Been Everywhere”, because I can relate too. Even been to Winnemucca several times, the Nevada town mentioned in that tune, which is in fact not too far from where I recorded this video you see here, in northern Nevada.

Not right now, but I’m fixin’ to learn “I Saw The Light”, which he wrote, got the TAB and all. I’m only now getting into playing some non-bluegrass tunes on the banjo, but it’s still all new to me. But I’ll get some Hank done one of these days.

No, in my honest opinion, I think it will be a couple of years more before I can reach that level. I pick my banjo usually at home, but I have picked for people in birthdays and parties, just for fun. But I did pick that same tune a year ago at a pub here in Scotland and it was very well received by the folks there, but that could have been the liquor affecting their good judgement! :)

No problem. Yeah, I just use regular enamel acrylic spray paint I get on eBay.
