The Astros won the tiebreaker over the Dodgers 7-1 to clinch their first N.L. West division pennant. Joe Niekro pitched a complete game in which he had 6 strikeouts.

  27. Jensuarezgonzalez

“Tomorrow starting at 4:00 eastern, the Houston Astros meet the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first National League division tiebreaker ever. Today Ron Cey strokes his 28th home run of the season to lead the Dodgers over the Astros 4-3. Tomorrow, the game that will decide the Western division champion. Live on ABC.”

Bowl Guard kills 99.5% of germs…….and my cat after it drank from the toilet….keep that lid shut folks.

  29. sageguitar70

I had an 81 Monte Carlo with that undersized V6…what a piece of shit that car was.

  30. IluvDonnieandJordan

I remember going to Montgomery Ward when I was kid. I love going to that store.

  31. rlwieneke

I’m heading to a 24 hour Walmart to get some Bowl Guard.

  32. chemistryguy

    Where are the kids?

    With my mother.

Time to get hammered on import beer.

  33. mitch19872

Thanks for uploading these! My dad worked at Pacific 66 ( Canada’s Phillips 66) from the mid to late 70s. And the glass bottles were still the best….everyone had a keychain with a bottle opener on it back then.

  34. Clay3613

Take 5, way better than Whatchamacallit…

  35. barber747

Wow…Mary Ann Childers on Channel 7…years before she and hubby Jay Levine moved to CBS 2 in 1994.

  36. funkmex75

man do i miss pepsi’s in glass bottles.

  37. DanZero77

70s beer sure had funny bottles and glasses!

JC Penney (and Sears) did sell their own branded stereo equipment — except they did not manufacture it. That was usually up to Technics and Radio Shack’s manufacturer for the JC Penney MCS line, which was considered top of the line in its heyday.

Remember when they showed end credits to movies on network TV?

  38. Tigercat919

I lived in Chicago throughout the 1990s and remember watching May Ann Childers on TV. And I remember 103.5 not as WFYR but as Rock 103.5 and eventually 103.5 the Beat (i was more of a Q101 guy…rest in peace!).

Montgomery Ward, a Chicago institution…so was Marshall Fields.

  39. Aphytus

Yeah, the cheapest gas I can remember was when it was the period in the late 90’s when for a while there it was 98-99 cents a gallon.

Ooooh the good old days when we could fill up our small car for about $11. And our big one for maybe $30, $35 max.

  40. Benjamin Edge

The diesel version sold from 1982 to 1984 did not sit well with many due to the infamous Oldsmobile 5.7 diesel V8, although the 4.3 V6 cut-down version, ironically considered more reliable than its V8 counterpart, was also sold in the first two years of the diesel Monte Carlo’s existence.

  41. 80sCommercialVault

Gas hasn’t been 50 cents a gallon since the early 70’s. The average price for a gallon of gas in 1980 was $1.25, not too far off from the national average today when accounted for inflation.

  42. Jason Voorhees

Yeah but gas was probably 50 cents a gallon, so i guess it kind of evens out

  43. BanzaiM50

Tampa Bay got shutout the next day 23-0 against the Bears. Man, with the way the Astros are playing this season, its amazing they were that competitive. But then again, it hasn’t been that long ago that they were in a world series, how far we’ve fallen.

  44. Holly Helms

OMG, these commercials aired about two months before I was born, but I certainly remember Mary Ann Childers as a Chicago news anchor as a kid! NOW I feel old!

  45. ClassicTVful

Ha Ha. I love the Monte Carlo. Do they sell whatchmacallits?

  46. pika23

Yeah…just take the cards off all of em at the stores and scratch away!

  47. japaneseninjaguy

    LOL Whatchamacallit XD

  48. blugreen123

It’s a shame that Macy’s seems to have swallowed up all those dept. stores, such as Montgomery Ward
    Are Whatamacallits still made?
