Please visit our website at www.theshawnwilcoxband.com The Shawn Wilcox Band may change your notions about what old time mountain music was by artfully embroidering hillbilly sounds with modern techniques. There are more guitar amplifiers than banjos in the Appalachian mountains and more drum sets than fiddles… surprise. The grandson of a Tennessee moonshiner, Shawn Wilcox, offers a sip of reality and smashes to smithereens the myth of the music created by hillbillies. It’s honest, it’s the real deal and some folks are going to be pissed off. Nothing is sacred anymore! Vocals KT Pierce, Drums: Yonrico Scott, Bowed Dulcimer: Jim Miller, Bass: Rocky Buldo, All Guitars, FM Synth., and Spoken Word: Shawn Wilcox. Ms. Pierces Vocals recorded at Streamline Studio, Drums, Bass and Mastering at Big Rock Studio Technologies, All Guitars, Synth and Spoken Word recorded at Shawnwood Studio. Mixing by John Keane of John Keane Studio, Athens, Ga. Written, Arranged and Produced by Shawn Wilcox. All Rights Reserved. BMI

That was actually really interesting - I’m for sure seeing the electric Americana vibe as opposed to the guy that said you were misrepresenting, etc – has an overall kinda Leonard Cohen/Tom Waits feel. Nice work on the video itself too. Just found you on FB, and ‘Liked” the page. Thanks

I am from deep in the Tennessee hills and have been in and around the “hillbilly” music scene most of my life. This in no way shape or form resembles anything even close to traditional mountain music. It’s good stuff and I appreciate it for it’s artistic style, but again, it ain’t mountain music. Not even close.

Thank you for your comments and time. I believe tho I should point out that the spoken word portion of the lyrics was written by Maude Irving in the 1860s and entitled “I’ll Twine ‘Mid the Ringlets”, and was later recorded by the Carter Family for Ralph Peer, May 27, 1928 and retitled “Wildwood Flower”. Among the instrumentation, you will find the high strung guitar and the bowed dulcimer played in the traditional style, both of which are instruments rooted in Appalachian music.

You are completely off base. There are no hillbilly or even country elements in this tune. It is purely pop. Getting some guy to wear mime-face, strap a shop manikin on his back, and carry a Samurai sword in the Outback doesn’t cut it as “country” or “hillbilly” . . . That being said, the song and video are well crafted. . . Not exactly my cup of tea, but so what? Good job. . . Just try not to misrepresent your music.

Thanks for your input. Unlike t and a videos, this is designed to make one think and come to their own conclusions as to what it means to them. We provide a visual and musical platform for the imagination as to enable the viewer to create their own story line to the journey. We’re sorry that you missed the point so many others enjoy but we can’t make everyone happy. Thank you however for your time and comments. SWB

I preface by stating I’m not a fan of music vids. For the most part they’re filled with pretentious symbolism which only confuses and mystifies. This is a good example of that. The imagery of the singer is fine and are the bright spots (few though they are). Who is the old guy in white face? Why should we care? What’s the mannikin he’s shlepping around? The lizard? The carousel? The classroom? Trains? And why is the chick wearing a mask? More directorial pretension than I can bear.
