Always loved the Kinks and this song in particular….but never thought I’d miss the century of my birth this much…..

Thank you for the kind words. I never appreciated how difficult it was to do a nice one of these until I did this one. Its really cool other people enjoy it as well.

So true for the 21st century too. “born in a welfare state….lost my liberty.”

Well it would certainly make my day (year? life?) were Mr. Davies to drop by and say “Hey, I really liked what you did there.” I won’t be holding my breath. lol

Thank you for the kinds words! They are very appreciated.

I love this! Rhorto, both your friend (so sorry for your loss) and the Kinks would be honored. Amazing job with the pictures. They make the song even more powerful than it is… if that’s possible.

    Remember: Think irony. :-)

Is the image of Vonnegut implying that he’s a bad 20th century writer? I hope not.

I see what you mean but he’s saying it kind of fast. Even though it sounds like he might be saying peaceman, I’m pretty sure he’s saying, “policeman” not “peace man”.

We should throw out everything what was invented in 20 century (and 21) and get back to the Middle age. It´s that or we´re all gonna die, imagine if all Chinese want to be like Americans. We´re gonna die…

That bridge – “I was born in a welfare state…” – is just incredible. Unexpected and thrilling. Nobody does it like the Kinks.

This song so reminds me of me.

Don’t want to get shot myself shot down by some trigger happy peace nut :)

Man. Ray channels american culture really well. He was so English, but no one spoke truer about both countries.

Great job with the pics – very appropriate – just like this song is so damned appropriate whether you are in 1970 or 2010.

Yes, this is off the album “Muswell HIllbillies” (An album everyone should own IMO)

I need to find this version of the song. Is it from the original album or a newer one?

  24. boattrainpaddy

One of my top 25 favorite songs of all time. As timely when it was penned as it is today.
    Fuck the leaders.
