MojoCaster.com – April 2008 Column

Instead of writing my column this month, I decided to video tape it instead. This time, I once again revisit the notion of keeping practice fun – using a looper. Gear used in this video includes the following: Dr Z Carmen Ghia USA Reverend Rocco DigiTech JamMan Looper Holy Grail reverb Song: Your Own Sweet Way (Mark Knopfler/Notting Hillbillies)

Hi Mojo, finally I decided to get myself a looper, thx to your suggestions in this and other videos. It’s just the rather economic Boss RC-2 with just the basic functions, but I think it’s the best investment I made in a long time. Well, THIS REALLY HELPS to improve one’s skills! Thanks for the suggestion!

As long as it works! I also have an 8-track digital recorder that I use, but that ends up being 30 minutes before I can really play. It’s fun too, and I like it, but sometimes I just want that fast, simple loop in 2 minutes 😉

nice “looper lesson”. i use a different technology, with the same effect: i record my guitar chords and/or drum machine/bass lines (zoom rt-223) on my apple laptop through a motu 828 firewire interface. just 1 or 2 tracks, edited on garageband, and there you go! (ok, YOUR solution is faster and more “laid back”)

Yes, that one is a USA one. I do not own one of the MIK ones, but I have used a friend’s guitars, and I thought they were a great bargain. Highly recommended!

hi mojo, great stuff, as usual! your reverend is a us made, right? do you have a “new” one (korean production)? could you present/review it? (i am interested in one).

A loop I can make, now making and downloading a Vid thats another story,I’ll leave that to your expertise.

Great stuff! Do you have vids? I’d love to see you in action. I bet I’d learn a ton of stuff :)

Hey Mojo, great lessons on the looper, I have the jam man also, I like it better than boss rc-20, one thing I like to use the looper for is live performance. I use a guitar synth, gr-20 by roland, lay my basic rythmn chords then start to add on the fly, things like sax, organ whatever you want. Loopers are a great aid for solo guitarist. thanks for posting

Nothing I can do, nothing I can say..
You do what you want to, go your own sweet way ^^

    What scale is it?

Wow! What an inspiration you are to us all. A looper and how to actually use it for practice. Scales get so boring and have been the reason for many of us giving up the guitar. Thank you Mojo, for helping. This 61 year young player just got some fresh ideas on guitar practice. What FUN!!!I think my Amplitude software has a looper function. Now I know what to do with it. Thank you so much!!
